When the name Derick Macharia Githinji was called out, all the graduands stood up with tears rolling down their cheeks. They joyful faces were abruptly engulfed with emotions. A mother walked stealthily from the tent to pick son’s certificate. He was accompanied by other family members who helped the mourning mother to the dias.
Slain Derick was honored by a standing ovation by all attendants who had graced the 41st graduation ceremony in the Daystar University. Macharia died four days to his graduation after he was hit by a speeding motorbike in Ruiru, Naivas, along the Thika Super Highway.
