Meet Benard Liyai Landlords SG Pushing for Rents Waiver over Coronavirus

Landlords and Tenants Association Secretary General Benard Liyai has been gaining popularity over the past few days after announcing rent waiver to tenants. This comes amidst tough economic season occasioned by the raging coronavirus.

In his latest statement Benard Liyai who is also a peace ambassador at Global Veterans Foundation & Peace Ambassadors(GLOVEPA INTERNTATIONAL). Liyai made the announcement on Wednesday, April 15, at a press conference adding LATAK had talked to its members over the issue. The association said it did not expect any tenants to be harassed by landlords because of rent payment. They have rolled out a toll-free number for troubled tenants suffering in the hands of landlords should contact the Association for support.

All the landlords must forthwith stop evictions, harassment and disconnection of electricity and water to tenants,’’ he said.

The Association is also in advanced stage to start discussions with banking industry to adjust loan repayment period to landlords who are members of the association who will be affected by the Pandmic.

Other landlords in Nairobi have taken the hard decision to waive rents to tenants while others reduced by a significant percentage. There have been ugly confrontation between tenants and landlords in the country after some failed to adhere the deadline date of fifth every month.

Photos have been emerging online of forceful evictions of tenants, while others even remove doors of their houses.
